| New
billing/accounting possibilities for PKI
Up until now the costs for a certificate infrastructure was up to
the certificate. This meant: A user paid in order to get a
certificate.
A user however does not have an advantage if he uses a certificate.
The advantage is on the side of the person who wants to do business
or the mail receiver who would like a digitally signed email as
prove. Because of this the mentioned accounting method is not very
effective when it comes to reach the critical mass of people which
are needed for the commercial success of a public key
infrastructure.
A new accounting method can be implemented by using
online-validation. The issuing of a certificate is without charge,
the validation however does cost a small amount. In this case the
trader who would like an approved digitally signed order will pay
for the costs of an infrastructure.
SyTrust CertControl
validation server supports this accounting method with a flexible
interface to billing and accounting systems.
